TAYLORSVILLE – St. Stephens High added the Northwestern 3A-4A wrestling tournament title to its regular-season conference championship on Saturday at Alexander Central.
The Indians outpointed second-place Alexander Central by 20 after winning individual titles in the 120, 132, 138, 182 and 195 weight classes.
Alexander Central had weight class champions at 106, 160 and 220 pounds.
St. Stephens’ Graham Ormand won the title at 120 pounds by pinning Tariq Shuford of Hickory in two minutes, 54 seconds.
At 132 pounds, the Indians’ Blake Baker won a title by pinning Alex Romero of Alexander Central in 3:37.
St. Stephens’ Eddie Brannock won the 138-pound championship, downing Benjamin Dula of Freedom 12-2.
Dakota Metcalf pinned Josh Morgan of McDowell in 2:19 to win a title at 182 while the Indians’ Salvador Gilvaja pinned Tevin Clark of Alexander Central in 1:46.
The Cougars’ winners were Charlie Lee (106), Ethan Lewis (160) and Marterion Howell at 220.
The award for most outstanding wrestler went to Hickory’s Chris Cohen at 152 pounds. He opened with a pin of Watauga’s Will Soule in 1:03, then pinned Javon McMahan of Freedom in 5:47 to reach the final where he defeated Dustin Herman of South Caldwell 19-1.
