MORGANTON – St. Stephens High continued to dominate Northwestern 3A-4A wrestling on Saturday, rolling to the league’s tournament title with seven weight class champions at Freedom High.
The Indians — 38-0 in dual-team matches and Northwestern 3A-4A regular-season champions — got eight wrestlers to title matches and won seven. They also added four wrestlers with third-place finishes.
St. Stephens scored 222 ½ points to easily outdistance Alexander Central (127) with Freedom and South Caldwell each scoring 99 points to share third.
The Indians’ champions were Coy Reid (106 pounds), Jovanny Urza (113), Graham Ormand (132), Blake Baker (138), Ivan Vergel (160), Dakota Metcalf (182) and Salvador Gilvaja (195).
Urza, Ormand, Baker, Metcalf and Gilvaja each won by pin with Ormand, Baker and Metcalf each needing no more than 49 seconds to secure victory.
Daniel Tellez (220 pounds) finished second for the Indians, falling to Marterion Howell of Alexander Central in the title match.
Finishing third for St. Stephens were Dallen Milligan at 126 pounds, Garrett Bolling at 145, De’Unate Henry at 152 and Jordan Bolling at 170.
