VOLLEYBALL ROUNDUP: Bandys wins, has key match Thursday at E. Lincoln (updated)

Sarah Kanipe had seven kills and 14 assists on Tuesday night to lead Bandys High’s 3-0 road victory over Lincolnton in South Fork 2A girls’ volleyball that gives the Trojans a shot at moving up in the conference standings on Thursday night.

With Caroline Mirman, Shi Pope and Chloe Townsend combining for 55 digs, the Trojans toppled the Wolves 25-15, 25-11, 25-20 to improve to 2-1 in the conference.

Bandys is tied with North Lincoln for third place, and the Trojans play at East Lincoln — 3-0 and tied with Maiden for the early league lead – on Thursday night at 6 p.m.

Mirman had 20 digs, Townsend had 19 and Pope had 16 for Bandys against the Wolves. Piper Rhyne and Caitlin Styles each added six kills, Emma Dutka had 20 assists and Tony Culliver produced four blocks to also lead Bandys, 3-3 overall.

Lincolnton dropped to 5-2, 1-2 and goes to West Lincoln for a league match on Thursday at 6 p.m.

Maiden 3, Lake Norman Charter 0

At Maiden, Kyle Morgan’s 18 kills and three aces sparked the Blue Devils’ South Fork 2A victory and extended their conference win streak to 32 matches.

Maiden won 25-22, 25-7, 25-20 as Abbey Smith and Abby Driscoll each added four hills and Faith Herman finished with 31 assists and eight aces.

The Blue Devils travel to North Lincoln on Thursday at 6 p.m. in a key match that will shake up the conference standings.

Maiden’s 32-match league win streak includes going 14-0 in back-to-back seasons while winning Southern District 7 Athletic 2A titles.

East Lincoln 3, North Lincoln 2

The Mustangs won on the road, handing the Knights their first loss of the year in a South Fork 2A match.

East Lincoln rallied to win the final two matches – 25-6, 15-13 to gain a share of first place with Maiden at 3-0 in the league.

North Lincoln is 2-1 in the conference and shares third place with Bandys.

The Knights won the opening match on Tuesday 25-19 before East Lincoln won 26-24 for a 1-all tie.

The Mustangs rallied after North Lincoln won the third game, 25-21.

East Lincoln meets Carson on Wednesday night at East Lincoln before playing host to Bandys on Thursday night.

North Lincoln is at home Thursday night at 6 p.m., facing Maiden.

Newton-Conover 3, West Lincoln 1

The Red Devils picked up their first South Fork 2A victory by beating the Rebels in Newton.

Newton-Conover plays at Lake Norman Charter on Thursday night at 6 p.m. while West Lincoln meets Lincolnton at West Lincoln.

Through the first three league playing dates only Lake Norman Charter and West Lincoln are winless in the conference (0-3).

NORTHWESTERN FOOTHILLS 2A

East Burke 3, Patton 1

East Burke won a Northwestern Foothills 2A match at home 20-25, 25-20, 25-13, 25-20 with Erica Clontz leading the way with 10 kills and five assists.

The Cavs, 1-1 in the league, also got nine kills by Pressley Kiser, 13 digs by Lindsey Cales, 18 assists from Anna Suddreth and four blocks from Riley Haas.

East Burke has a conference match on Wednesday at 6 p.m. at Hibriten, and Patton is at home, also at 6 p.m., to face West Iredell.

Fred T. Foard 3, Hibriten 0

The Tigers won at home to stay unbeaten (3-0) in the Northwestern Foothills 2A.

Foard plays Davie County at Foard on Thursday at 6 p.m. in a non-conference match.

Hibriten faces Draughn in a conference match in Lenoir on Wednesday at 6 p.m.

NORTHWESTERN 3A-4A

St. Stephens 3, West Caldwell 0

Winning on the road 25-4, 25-9, 25-7, the Indians are off to a 3-0 start in the Northwestern 3A-4A.

Rebekah Kirkland had 12 kills, Avery Jackson had 10 kills and Sam Wilson contributed 15 assists to lead St. Stephens.

On Thursday, the Indians are at home to play Watauga, also 3-0 in the league, at 6 p.m.

West Caldwell goes to Highland Tech for a Wednesday 6 p.m. match, then plays Thursday at 6 p.m. at Hickory.

Watauga 3, Hickory 0

The Pioneers won in Boone 26-24, 25-21, 25-20 to go to 3-0 in the Northwestern 3A-4A.

Watauga rode 12 kills, 15 digs and three aces by Brooke Byrd and 15 digs and seven kills from Rebekah Farthing to victory.

Grace Hayes had 28 assists for Watauga and Emma Clark added nine kills.

Julie Huggins had eight kills, Ally Sweeny provided eight digs, Morgan Anderson had nine assists and Olivia Pisel had 11 assists for the Red Tornadoes.

The Pioneers play a key match at St. Stephens on Thursday night at 6 p.m.

Hickory, 2-1 in the league, has a home non-league match against Statesville on Wednesday at 6 p.m. and is at home to play league rival West Caldwell at 6 p.m. on Thursday.
