CHAPEL HILL – The North Carolina High School Athletic Association (NCHSAA) 1A and 3A track and field state championship meets originally scheduled for Friday have been postponed until Sunday.

The decision to postpone was made after monitoring the weather forecast all morning and consulting with officers of the NCHSAA Board of Directors.

“It is always difficult to decide to postpone or delay a state championship event,” NCHSAA Commissioner Que Tucker said in an NCHSAA press release. “However, with inclement weather in the forecast for much of the day on Friday, it became apparent that this decision is in the best interest of the 1A and 3A student-athletes who have worked so hard to reach this year’s state championship meet.”

The NCHSAA staff will offer a FCA Devotion at 10 a.m. on Sunday for any interested participants.

The 1A/3A meet will begin at 11 a.m. at North Carolina A&T State University’s Irwin Belk Track in Greensboro. The original meet timing schedule will be adjusted by one hour, with field events and a few running preliminaries starting the championships at 11:00 a.m.

At this time, the 2A and 4A meet is still on as scheduled for Saturday with a 10 a.m. start, also at the Irwin Belk Track.
