Fred T. Foard High’s No. 1 singles player, Alexis Wolgemuth, has been named the Northwestern Foothills 2A Player of the Year in voting by conference head coaches.

Woglemuth, who won a state doubles team championship over the weekend with teammate Emily Campbell, led the Tigers to a conference title.

Foard’s head coach, Ryan Gettys, won Coach of the Year.

Watauga wins 3 key awards

Watauga, the unbeaten champion in Northwestern 3A-4A volleyball, won three of the league’s four awards when the all-conference team was announced on Tuesday night.

Rebekah Farthing of the Pioneers was selected Player of the Year and teammate Tegan Allan won Defensive Player of the Year and Watauga’s Kris Hagaman won Coach of the Year.

The Offensive Player of the Year is Alli Gambill of Hickory, which finished in second place behind Watauga in the regular-season standings.

North Lincoln leads All-South Fork 2A

Conference champion North Lincoln swept the key awards in South Fork 2A cross country.

Alyssa Galvin of the Knights was the top girls’ runner of the year and her coach, Craig Amaira, won the coaching award.

North Lincoln’s Jason Thomson was the top male runner and his coach, Jerry Castro, was named the league’s top coach.

Hibriten’s Gracie Church was named the top girls’ golfer and her coach, Larry Taylor, was Coach of the Year after the Panthers finished ahead of Draughn for a league title.
