Five of the 14 teams from the South Fork 2A (5), Northwestern Foothills 2A (5) and Northwestern 3A-4A (4) that gained state boys’ high school soccer playoff bids on Wednesday will open the postseason at home on Saturday.
Home matches include Lake Norman Charter at Newton-Conover, East Burke at East Lincoln and East Gaston at Hibriten in 2A, plus Hunter Huss at Watauga and Southwest Guilford at Hickory in 3A.
South Caldwell received a first round bye in 4A and will have a second round home match on Tuesday.
These match times for Saturday have been announced: Hibriten’s match is at 6 p.m. on Saturday while Hickory’s match is the same night at 7 p.m., and West Caldwell said its road match at Concord will begin at 3 p.m.
Newton-Conover, the South Fork 2A champion, is also the defending state 2A champion and will play Lake Norman Charter for the third time this season. The Red Devils won regular-season league matches over the Knights, 4-0 in Newton and 4-2 in Huntersville.
