BOONE – Watauga High softball head coach Shelby Drummonds has resigned, WATA Radio reported.

Drummonds, who had coached junior varsity softball and was previously a varsity assistant coach, took over the Watauga varsity last spring.

The Pioneers went 9-13 overall and 6-8 in the Northwestern 3A-4A, finishing sixth in an eight-team league, and gained the league’s No. 6 seed into the conference tournament. They were eliminated by third-seeded Hibriten, 8-1.

Drummonds played softball at Watauga, earning all-state honors as a junior. She played NCAA Division III softball at Salem College in Winston-Salem for one season and then for three seasons at Greensboro College.
