HIGH SCHOOL SOFTBALL: Alex Central, W. Lincoln each have 4 on all-state

Alexander Central and West Lincoln each have four 2017 all-state girls’ softball players as selected by the North Carolina Softball Coaches Association (NCSCA).

The Cougars on the 4A all-state team are (class as of last season): sophomore outfielder Lanie Goforth, junior catcher Brittany Krider, senior pitcher Kendra Mayes and junior first baseman Alexis Walter.

West Lincoln’s four players on the 2A team are (class of last season): junior second baseman Jessica Adams, senior outfielder Kylee Leonhardt, junior utility player Adison Rhyne and junior shortstop Carson Warlick.

Bunker Hill, Draughn, East Burke and Freedom each have two all-state players.

The NCSCA recently announced its All-District teams (there are eight districts) and area players won these top awards:

  • West Lincoln’s Warlick was named District 6 Player of the Year in 2A.
  • Bunker Hill’s Peyton Goble, a junior outfielder, was named District 7 Player of the Year in 2A.
  • Fred T. Foard junior shortstop Abby Settlemeyer was named District 7 Player of the Year in 3A.
