HIGH SCHOOL BOYS SOCCER PLAYOFFS: Newton-Conover’s match for West 2A title moved to Wednesday

NEWTON – Newton-Conover High’s boys’ soccer match at Salisbury for the West 2A title has been delayed by one day because of rainy weather.

On Monday, the Red Devils announced the match will now be played on Wednesday night at 6 p.m. at Salisbury.

Newton-Conover, the South Fork 2A champion this season, is seeded No. 4 and Salisbury (24-2-1) is seeded No. 3.

Wednesday night’s winner advances to the state 2A championship match in Raleigh to play either No. 2 Clinton (24-1) or No. 1 First Flight (19-1-1).

Newton-Conover is the defending state 2A champion, beating First Flight 1-0 in Raleigh for the title.

The North Carolina High School Athletic Association (NCHSAA) will announce the state championship match times once it knows which teams are advancing to Raleigh.

The 3A title match will pit these winners against each other: No. 9 Marvin Ridge (20-3) versus N. 3 Mount Tabor (21-4-1) and No. 18 East Chapel Hill (18-4-2) versus No. 12 Chapel Hill (20-3-1).

In 4A, the remaining teams are: No. 8 Myers Park (19-2) at No. 6 South Mecklenburg (18-5-1) and No. 2 Cardinal Gibbons (19-3-2) at No. 1 Green Hope (21-2-1).
