HIGH SCHOOLS: Mustangs win as Chase Gilley reaches 100 career goals

Chase Gilley scored three goals — becoming the first boys’ soccer player in Lincoln County history with 100 for his career—as East Lincoln High beat visiting Bandys 6-0 on Wednesday night in a South Fork 2A match.

Logan Gilley added two goals and Evan Montanari added his first career goal for the Mustangs (11-0, 4-0), who share the conference lead with Newton-Conover.

Noah Graden had three assists while Chase Gilley, Logan Gilley and Blake Swanson each provided an assist for East Lincoln.

Mustangs goalkeeper Will White earned his first career shutout.

The North Carolina High School Athletic Association (NCHSAA) lists 37 other 100-goal scorers in its history of boys’ soccer.

East Lincoln won the junior varsity match 1-0 over Bandys on a goal by Eli Perez and with Jonathan Nauman in goal.

East Lincoln’s next varsity league match is Monday at 5 p.m. at Maiden.

Fred T. Foard 1, Patton 0

The Tigers won on the road to remain tied with Hibriten and West Caldwell for the early Northwestern Foothills 2A lead.

Ivan Martinez scored on a penalty kick for Foard.

Foard, Hibriten and West Caldwell are each 4-0-0 in the league with West Iredell (2-2-0) in fourth place.

The Tigers’ next conference match is on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. at home against Bunker Hill.

Paton has a league match on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. at Draughn.

North Lincoln 7, Maiden 0

The Knights won by shutout at home in a South Fork 2A match, improving to 3-1-0 in the league, and they are in third place.

Maiden , 1-3-0 in the conference, got 18 saves from Damien Vixaysak.

The Knights’ next league match is Monday at 6 p.m. at Newton-Conover while Maiden is at home at 5 p.m. to face East Lincoln.

Watauga 2, Hickory 1 (Monday)

The Pioneers nipped the visiting Red Tornadoes, dropping Hickory to 7-3-3 overall and 2-1 in the conference.

Jose Vallecillos scored for Hickory and Carter Holt had an assist.

Hickory plays a non-league match at Statesville on Thursday night.

 

East Lincoln 4, North Lincoln 1 (Monday)

Logan Gilley scored twice, leading the Mustangs to a South Fork 2A win on the road.

Noah Graden and Chase Gilley each scored a goal for the Mustangs and Chase Gilley and Logan Gilley each had an assist.

Eric Rios scored for North Lincoln.

VOLLEYBALL

Maiden 3, Lincolnton 0 (Tuesday)

The Blue Devils remained unbeaten in the South Fork 2A, winning 25-7, 25-13, 25-9 on the road.

Abby Smith led Maiden with 10 kills and six digs and Isabella Abernathy added eight kills and eight aces.

The Blue Devils also got eight kills by Sarah Wicker, seven kills by Anna White, 14 assists from Adison Ford and 21 assists by Abby Gant.

Maiden, 7-0-0 in the conference, starts the second half of the league schedule on Thursday at 6 p.m. at Bandys.

Lincolnton, 1-6 in the conference, plays Thursday at 6 p.m. at home against Newton-Conover.

GIRLS GOLF

Rebels win by 9 strokes

West Lincoln won a South Fork 2A match at the Lincoln Country Club on Wednesday, shooting 288 to edge Lake Norman Charter by nine strokes.

Georgia Chapman was medalist in an 18-hole match with an 82 while Laycee Huffman’s 87 lead West Lincoln.

Freedom takes 10-stroke victory (Tuesday)

Freedom won by 10 strokes in a Northwestern 3A-4A match at Catawba Springs, edging McDowell.

The Patriots increased their season advantage over McDowell to 28 strokes (678-to-706).

Christina Fisher of Freedom was medalist with a nine-hole score of 40 and teammate Albany Bock shot a 43.

Cortnee Tate’s 46 led McDowell.

CROSS COUNTRY

North Lincoln sweeps (Tuesday)

Host North Lincoln won a girls’ and boys’ title in the South Fork 2A, finishing ahead of Lake Norman Charter in both races.

North Lincoln’s girls had 24 points and Lake Norman Charter had 57 while North Lincoln’s boys had 20 points to Lake Norman Charter’s 60.

North Lincoln’s Angie Allen (21:28.09) and Alyssa Galvin (22:12.66) finished 1-2 in the girls’ race and teammates Delanie Mellon, Lori Glavan and Andrea McAllister finished sixth through eight, respectively.

Abby Farris had Lake Norman Charter’s best time, finishing fifth.

In the boys’ race, Daniel Hopkins of Lincolnton won in 17:27.57 with North Lincoln runners taking second through sixth, respectively, led by Khari Johnson’s second place finish (17:54.65).

North Lincoln also had runners finish in eighth through 10.
