HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP: W. Iredell hands St. Stephens first loss in girls’ volleyball

Lucy Ann Ferguson had 34 kills on Wednesday night as visiting West Iredell High handed St. Stephens its first girls’ volleyball loss of the season.

The Warriors won 3-0 – 25-16, 25-23, 25-21 – to leave the Indians 4-1.

Savanna Laws led West Iredell in blocks with six, Emily Bustle had six aces and the digs and assists leader for the Warriors were Jenna Bodenheimer with 40 and Macy Pope with 76, respectively.

Madi Bolch had 17 digs and Sydney Otterberg had eight for the Indians. Sam Wilson added 19 assists, Rebecca Kirkland and Hannah McElroy provided five kills each and Lauren Gantt had four aces.

The Indians face Maiden at St. Stephens on Thursday at 6 p.m., and the Warriors travel to North Iredell on Thursday for a 6 p.m. match.

Maiden 3, Bunker Hill 0: The Blue Devils won 25-17, 25-14, 25-13 in a non-conference home match.

Maiden goes to St. Stephens on Thursday (6 p.m.), and the Bears go to Hibriten for their next match on Monday at 6 p.m.

BOYS SOCCER

East Lincoln 7, Piedmont Community Charter 1: Chase Gilley’s three goals sparked East Lincoln’s home victory.

Miller Towson added two assists for the Mustangs, who scored five of their goals in the opening half.

East Lincoln’s next match is Wednesday at Pine Lake Prep at 7 p.m.

West Caldwell 1, Hibriten 0: The Warriors scored the only goal in the second half of a home match, winning despite eight saves by the Panthers’ Wyatt Plaster.

West Caldwell is at home on Tuesday to face Alexander Central while Hibriten is at home Thursday at 6 p.m., facing Hickory Christian.

Charlotte Country Day 1, Lake Norman Charter 0: Country Day picked up a road win by beating the Knights, who got three saves from Joe Wessler.

Lake Norman Charter next plays on Wednesdayat 6 p.m. at Statesville.

Patton 8, McDowell 2: The Panthers improved to 4-0 with a victory on the road. They scored four goals in each half.

Patton battles Freedom at Patton on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m.
