HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP: South Fork 2A, Northwestern 3A-4A start volleyball chases

REPORTING RESULTS: High school coaches in the South Fork 2A, Northwestern Foothills 2A and Northwestern 3A-4A are reminded to report results as soon as possible after an event is completed to chobbs001@att.net. Include final score(s), first and last names of all players mentioned in your report, team records and othe pertinent information.

The conference schedule for girls’ volleyball begins on Tuesday in two of the Greater Hickory area’s three new high school conferences.

The opening league matches of the season are on tap for the South Fork 2A and Northwestern 3A-4A, and the other league – the Northwestern Foothills 2A – has its first playing date on Wednesday.

In the South Fork 2A, matches include two county rivalry matches battling at 6 p.m. – Bandys at Maiden and North Lincoln at West Lincoln.

Opening matches in the Northwestern 3A-4A include St. Stephens at Freedom at 6 p.m.

On Wednesday, the first Northwestern Foothills 2A matches include these county rivalries at 6 p.m.: Fred T. Foard at Bunker Hill and Hibriten at West Caldwell.

BOYS SOCCER

Lake Norman Charter 5, West Iredell 1: The Knights (2-1-0) scored three times in the opening 12 minutes en route to beating the visiting Warriors (1-3-2).

In the fourth minute, Sloan Schwarzenegger took a throw-in on the right side and crossed it over to Collin Petty on the left, who scored.

Less than 30 seconds later, Connor Hahn buried a point blank shot from a Nolan Benz cross. In the 12th minute, Cole Rasenberger sent a long cross from the right wing and Petty headed the ball down to the goal line. It bounced off the right post and rolled across the line for Petty’s second goal.

With just seconds left in the first half, Rasenberger launched his throw-in deep into the penalty area. Schwarzenegger connected with a header to give the Knights a 4-0 halftime advantage. Riley Benz finished the Knights’ scoring in the 66th minute by taking Schwarzenegger’s flick of a Joe Wessler punt and dribbling 20 yards before drilling it into the net.

Lake Norman Charter meets Statesville on the road on Wednesday at 6 p.m.

West Iredell plays at home Wednesday at 6:30 p.m., facing West Forsyth.

Bandys 2, Fred T. Foard 1: At Bandys, the Trojans improved to 4-1-0 with a non-league victory over the Tigers.

No other match details were available.

Bandys is at home Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. to battle Alexander Central while the Tigers’ next match is Wednesday at home at 6 p.m. against Newton-Conover.

West Caldwell 3, East Burke 2: At East Burke, the Warriors won a non-league match on Monday with two second-half goals.

Micah Chrisco and Jonathan Salgado scored goals for East Burke, Bryan Hernandez had an assist and Samuel Miller made 15 saves.

East Burke next plays on Tuesday at 6 p.m. at home against Maiden.

West Caldwell’s next match is Sept. 6 at home against East Burke.
