HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP: Foard wins in volleyball, faces W. Iredell for first place on Thursday night

Fred T. Foard High won its seventh straight volleyball match on Wednesday night – beating visiting Hibriten 3-0 – to set up a showdown with West Iredell for first place in the Northwestern Foothills 2A.

West Iredell, 7-0 in the conference, visits Foard (8-0 conference) on Thursday at 6 p.m. to battle for first place.

The match was originally scheduled for Sept. 17 but postponed.

Foard beat Hibriten 25-15-25-12, 25-12 to take over first place by a half-game and drop Hibriten to 0-8 in the conference.

No other match details were available.

St. Stephens 3, South Caldwell 0

Carter Leatherman and Neila King each had nine kills and Rachel Merrill provided seven kills and two aces as the Indians won 25-9, 25-20, 25-13 on the road in a Northwestern 3A-4A match.

Kenley Killian made 23 serves for St. Stephens and scored 17 points. She added 24 assists.

The Indians (9-9, 6-4) are now tied for third place in the league with Alexander Central (7-11, 6-4), both behind league-leading Watauga (9-0) and Hickory (8-1).

St. Stephens has a key conference match on Monday at Hickory at 6 p.m. while the Spartans play a league match at 6 p.m. on Monday at Alexander Central.

Bunker Hill 3, Draughn 1

Payton Bryant had 3 digs and eight kills, sparking the Bears to a 25-27, 25-18, 25-23, 25-16 victory in a Northwestern Foothills 2A match at Draughn.

Sarah Houston added 12 kills and 13 digs while Allison Fair had 19 assists and 24 digs and Brooke Falowski finished with 18 assists and 24 digs for the Bears.

Bunker Hill, which gained head coach Kelsey Dettman her 101st career win, faces East Burke at home on Monday night at 6 p.m. in a conference match.

Draughn travels to Hibriten for a league match on Monday at 6 p.m.

Bunker Hill is with a half-game of third place East Burke at 5-4 in league play to the Cavs’ 5-3 while Draughn is 2-7 in the conference and tied with Patton for fifth place.

BOYS SOCCER

Hickory 2, Alexander Central 1

Brayden Rowland had both goals for Hickory and Harrison Boston made four saves as the Red Tornadoes won a Northwestern 3A-4A match in Taylorsville.

Hector Diaz had an assist for Hickory (8-2-4, 5-1-0) as it knocked the Cougars (4-2-0) out of a share for first place.

The Hickory junior varsity stayed unbeaten (12-0, 6-0) with a 7-1 victory over Alexander Central.

Hickory will be at home Monday at 6 p.m. to face archrival St. Stephens while Alexander Central faces South Caldwell on Monday at 6 p.m. in Taylorsville.

East Lincoln 6, West Lincoln 0

The Mustangs remained in first place in the South Fork 2A with their third shutout in conference play, blanking the Rebels on the road.

Chase Gilley led East Lincoln, 6-0-0 in the conference, with two goals and two assists. Ty Knight scored twice, Logan Gilley had one goal and two assists and Luke Felts scored a goal for the Mustangs.

East Lincoln is just in front of Newton-Conover in the standings and plays the Red Devils at East Lincoln on Monday at 6 p.m.

West Lincoln, 0-6-0 in the league, is at Lake Norman Charter in a conference match Monday at 6 p.m.

Bandys 3, Lake Norman Charter 1

The Trojans won a South Fork 2A match at home, improving to 4-2-0 in the conference.

Garrett Rhodes, Vik Khang and Ben Joseph each scored for Bandys and Jake Reavis and Jake Bulen each had an assist.

The Trojans face North Lincoln on the road Monday at 6 p.m. in a conference match while Lake Norman Charter, 2-3-0 in the conference, plays at home Monday at 6 p.m., facing West Lincoln.
