HIGH SCHOOL GOLF: St. Stephens, Lake Norman Charter lead conference races

Led by Caden Powell winning medalist with a round of 74, St. Stephens High won Thursday’s Northwestern 3A-4A golf match at Brushy Mountain.

The Indians shot 320 to nip host Alexander Central by one stroke, and West Caldwell finished third at 344.

Bryce Hull added a 75 for St. Stephens, which leads the league race after five matches at 1,612. Hickory and West Caldwell are each 20 strokes behind the Indians.

The individual conference leader, by 10 strokes, is Hull (377) with Noah Bumgarner of West Caldwell in second place (387) and Jared Clontz of Freedom in third (390).

 Lake Norman Charter still leads

Lake Norman Charter won its fifth South Fork 2A match of the season on Thursday, besting North Lincoln by nine strokes at the Catawba Country Club.

The Knights shot 327 to finish ahead of North Lincoln, West Lincoln (339) and East Lincoln (355).

Lance Rowe of East Lincoln was medalist with a 74, two strokes ahead of West Lincoln’s Dalton Adams, while Jace Arko has Lake Norman Charter’s best score at 79.
