HIGH SCHOOL GIRLS GOLF UPDATE: South Fork 2A has 8 in state 1A/2A tournament

Eight golfers from the South Fork 2A and two from the Northwestern 3A-4A have advanced to next week’s state girls’ golf championship tournaments.

The eight in 2A qualified from the 2A regionals earlier this week — as did two Freedom golfers in 3A – and the West 4A Regional is scheduled to be played Wednesday.

The state championship tournaments — 1A/2A (Longleaf in Southern Pines), 3A (Foxfire Village) and 4A (Pinehurst No. 5) – are scheduled Monday and Tuesday.

In 2A, Avery County, Highland Tech and Hendersonville had top 3 regional finishes to advance to Longleaf as teams.

The individual state qualifiers from the South Fork 2A are: Camryn Lamp of Newton-Conover (86), Georgia Chapman and Tess Palmer of Lake Norman Charter (91s), Laycee Huffman of West Lincoln (91), Reese Coltran and Rae Watson of West Lincoln (96s), Sandra Uon of Newton-Conover (97) and East Lincoln’s Sophia Laliberte (100).

Lincoln Charter’s Angela Jeffords (100) also qualified for Longleaf.

In 3A, Marvin Ridge, Cox Mill and Charlotte Catholic advanced to Foxfire as teams.

Freedom’s Christina Fisher and Albany Bock, both with 83s, advanced to Foxfire as individuals.

Rebels win South Fork 2A; N-C’s Lamp POY

West Lincoln won the South Fork 2A girls title, edging East Lincoln by 42 strokes, and Camryn Lamp of Newton-Conover was Player of the Year after winning the individual title.

The Rebels shot 1,004 with East Lincoln next at 1,046.

Lamp won the league individual race by seven strokes, finishing at 196, while East Lincoln’s Sophia Laliberte was second at 203 and five strokes ahead of Georgia Chapman of Lake Norman.

Matthew Lynch of West Lincoln won Coach of the Year.

Freedom wins Northwestern 3A-4A

Freedom was the Northwestern 3A-4A title by 62 strokes, shooting 909 in seven conferences matches to edge McDowell.

The Patriots’ Christina Fisher and Albany Bock were 1-2 in the individual standings, 225 to 250, with McKenize Hartman of McDowell in third at 263.

The league’s award will be announced later this month.
