PINEHURST — Bandys High enters Tuesday’s second and final round of the state boys’ 2A golf championships tied for sixth place in the team standings.

The Trojans — led by a round of 80 by Atley Gabriel — shot an opening day 347 at Foxfire Red in Pinehurst.

Bandys won a Catawba Valley 2A Athletic championship in boys’ golf this season.

The Trojans share sixth with Lincoln Charter and Salisbury, each of them 19 strokes behind East Surry and Midway, who share the lead at 328.

In addition to Gabriel, the Bandys scores were an 85 by Sam Hartwell, a 90 by Chase Burnette and a92 by Owen Little.

East Burke’s Sam Mace is tied for fifth with three others golfers after a round of 76.

Wilson Beddingfield’s Drew O’Neal is the 2A leader at 74, one stroke ahead of Bradley Davis of East Surry, Brandon Bowman of West Stokes and Calvin Hawkins of West Davidson.

Play resumes on Tuesday morning in at Foxfire Red and at all other state tournament locations.

Nick Norman of Forestview shot a 73 and leads by one stroke over Davis DeLille of High Point Central and Ryan Masterton of Central Cabarrus.

Alex Bock of Freedom has the top score among Greater Hickory area golfers at 78 and is tied for 15th, and Max Cranford of Fred T. Foard shot 80.

Greenville Rose shot a 312 at Pinehurst No. 6 for the team leading and is six strokes up on Fayetteville Sanford.

4A

At Pinehurst No. 8, Will Hartman of Charlotte Catholic and Jack Weieler of Hickory Ridge share a one-stroke edge over Catholic’s Steven Shea. Harman and Weieler had 72s.

Catholic has the team lead by eight strokes (306) ahead of Green Hope and Pinecrest.

Alexander Central’s Adrian Hollar shot 86 and is tied for 56th and Mac Helton of South Caldwell shot 95 and is tied for 81st.

Colin Ferrick of Christ The King is atop the leaderboard with a 3-over par 75, leading a trio of golfers by one stroke each.

South Stanly (337) is in first place at 337 with Christ The King and Mitchell County tied for second at 340.
