HIGH SCHOOL BOYS GOLF CHAMPIONSHIPS: Bandys finishes eighth in 2A

PINEHURST — Bandys High dropped two spots on Tuesday in the second round of the state 2A boys’ golf championships at Foxfire Red and finished the two-day tournament in eighth place.

Atley Gabriel led the Trojans with a round of 81 on Tuesday and shot 161 to tie for 16th individually. Other Bandys rounds on Tuesday were 91 by Owen Little, 95 by Chase Barnette and 102 by Sam Harwell.

Little finished at 183, Barnette at 185 and Harwell at 187 in two rounds.

East Burke’s Sam Mace had a second-round 80 and shot 156, tying for eighth place in the individual standings.

Logan Atkins of Midway won the individual crown, shooting a 72 on Tuesday and 148, two strokes ahead of East Surry’s Bradley Davis Jr., who had two rounds of 75.

East Surry edged Midway for a team title, the seventh in school history for the Cardinals and their first since 2008.

Sophomore Connor Warren of Mitchell County had a 70 on Tuesday, closing at 146 and eight strokes ahead of Connor Carter of Eastern Randolph.

South Stanly won a team title, finishing ahead of Mitchell County and Christ The King.

Sophomore Luke Mosely of Greenville Rose won a state individual title, emerging as champion with a birdie on the second playoff hole.

Mosely and Gavin Drose of Cape Fear reached the second hole of the playoff after also tying with Nick Norman of Forestview and Davis DeLille of High Point Central. Drose had a par on the second playoff hole of sudden death after Norman and DeLille were eliminated on the first extra hole.

Alex Bock of Freedom tied for ninth (78-75–153) while Fred T. Foard’s Max Cranford was part of a five-way tie for 19th 980-77–157).

Greenville Rose, Fayetteville Sanford and Cape Fear finished 1-2-3 in the team standings.

Charlotte Catholic’s Will Hartman shot 143, posting a second-round 71,to win an individual title by five strokes.

Aidian Hollar of Alexander Central (86-86–172) was part of a three-way tie for 64th and Mac Helton of South Caldwell (95-84–179) placed 81st.

Catholic, team champion in 3A last year, edged Green Hope by three strokes for another team title.
