battle Carrboro at 11 a.m. at Grimsley High

South Fork 2A girls’ soccer champion Lake Norman Charter High goes for an unbeaten season on Saturday in Greensboro, facing Carrboro for the state 2A title.

The Knights (18-0-0) advanced from the West as a No. 7 seed while the Tigers (13-2-1) reached the state title as the No. 8 seed from the East.

The 2A match is at Greensboro Grimsley High’s Jamieson Stadium, starting at 11 a.m. on Saturday.

Lake Norman Charter’s path to Greensboro included a 7-0 home win over No. 10 Hibriten, a 3-1 road win at No. 2 Wilkes Central, a 3-1 home victory over No. 14 Salisbury and – in the West 2A title match – a 4-0 victory on the road over top-seeded South Point.

Carrboro opened the postseason with a 9-0 home win over No. 9 McMichael and then won 3-0 over No. 16 Richlands at Carrboro. In the third round, the Tigers won 9-0 at No. 5 East Bladen, and they won the East 2A crown with a 2-1 home victory over No. 11 Clinton.

Lake Norman Charter 4, South Point 0 (West final)

The Knights won to advance to a state title match for the third straight season, winning in Belmont last Tuesday.

Lake Norman Charter opened the scoring in the 23rd minute with a free kick by Reese Robinson that Kayla Patel placed at Asha Means’ feet for a perfect goal.

After South Point (17-1-0) had a corner kick ricochet off the post, the Knights got a goal by Patel on an assist by Means. Patel’s next goal, assisted by Robinson, put Lake Norman Charter up 3-0 at the half.

In the 48th minute, Means scored for the Knights on an assist from Eliza Rich.

Lake Norman Charter goalie Imani Anzaya had four saves.

Lake Norman Charter 3, Salisbury 1 (Third round)

Means opened the scoring for Lake Norman Charter in the ninth minute via an assist by Rich.

The Hornets (12-2-0) tied it in the 18th minute, before Rich scored two minutes later to give the Knights the lead for good.

Means scored in the 68th minute for Lake Norman Charter off a pass from Patel.
