HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL: Wolves drill Knights for third straight league victory

LINCOLNTON – The Wolves still have some bite in them.

Winning its third straight game, Lincolnton High moved into fourth place alone in South Fork 2A football by downing visiting Lake Norman Charter 53-14 on Friday night.

The Wolves lost their first two league games – to Newton-Conover and East Lincoln – but are now back in the hunt for their 18th consecutive state playoff bid.

Running back Tyshaun Harris and quarterback Terrell McClain led the way against the Knights (3-6, 0-5), who fell into last place with the loss.

Harris ran 14 times for 195 yards, scored three rushing touchdowns and caught a pass for another TD.

McClain completed 12 of 17 passes for 223 yards and three scores, throwing 47 yards to Tyreke Hollis, 57 yards to Skylar Evans and 31 yards to Harris for TDs.

Harris also had big plays in the kicking game for the Wolves, returning punts 50 and 61 yards to set up scores.

Lincolnton forced Lake Norman Charter to punt on its first six possessions.

The Wolves’ next game is Friday at 7:30 p.m., a league contest at North Lincoln. Lincolnton closes the regular season on Nov. 3, facing Maiden in Lincolnton.

Lake Norman Charter is at home next Friday night at 7:30 p.m. to battle Bandys, and closes the regular season Nov. 3 at West Lincoln.
