NEWTON – Fred T. Foard High has a chance to reach six or more wins in a season after beating visiting Bunker Hill 32-6 on Friday night in Northwestern Foothills 2A football.

Scoring twice off turnovers when they were already ahead by 14 points, the Tigers (5-2, 1-1) beat the Bears (0-7, 0-2) to hand head coach Derrick Minor career win No. 39.

Eight of those 39 wins have come in less than two season guiding Foard, and the Tigers now have a shot at six or more wins for the 15th time in school history (see graphic).

Foard plays unbeaten Hibriten next Friday night at 7:30 p.m. in Lenoir.

Against Bunker Hill, the Tigers gained an early two-score lead when Spencer Miller caught a TD pass from Corey Siemer and Siemer collected a 29-yard TD throw from quarterback Jack Colosimo.

After Foard blocked a punt, Colosimo broke a run 45 yards for a TD and a 20-0 lead.

Foard went up 26-0 in the third quarter when Tate Beaver ran 34 yards for a TD after the Tigers’ defense had recovered a fumble.

Beaver had the game’s final score on a TD run of 30 yards with about 11 minutes to play. He also blocked a punt and ran for more than 100 yards to lead Foard, which rebounded from a loss at Patton a week before that had stopped the Tigers’ four-game win streak.

Colosimo had nearly 120 yards in total offense while the Foard defense checked the struggling Bears on fewer than 200 yards of total offense.

The only score for the Bears came in the third quarter when Aaron Price hit Harold Morrison with a TD pass.

Foard had nearly 400 yards in total offense.

Beaver continued as a defensive force for the Tigers, forcing turnovers, and they have scored twice this season on returns of blocked punts.

Bunker Hill, outscored 288-81 this season, will go for its first win next Friday night at 7:30 p.m. at home against Draughn.
