HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL PLAYOFFS: E. Surry 10, Monroe 9

PILOT MOUNTAIN — Second-seeded East Surry nipped visiting and seventh-seeded Monroe, 10-9, on Friday night to advance to the fourth round of the state 2A football playoffs.

East Surry (12-0) — coached by former Bandys High star quarterback, assistant coach and head coach Trent Lowman — now meets No. 3 seed Maiden (13-0) on Friday night at 7:30 p.m.

Friday’s winner reaches the West 2A title game and will play No. 4 Reidsville (12-0) or No. 1 Shelby (12-1) at the highest-remaining seed. The Rams and Golden Lions play Friday night in Shelby.

If Shelby wins, the East Surry-Maiden winner goes there. If Reidsville wins, it travels to East Surry or Maiden for the West 2A title game.

The teams left in the East 2A bracket are: No. 5 St. Pauls  (11-0) at No. 1 Princeton (12-0) and No. 10 Wallace Rose Hill (11-2) at No. 3 Elizabeth City Northeastern (12-0.
