Noah Pitman ran for three scores – on runs of 30, 5 and 70 yards – to spark Mitchell County (4-0), which has outscored opponents 109-28 in the last two games.

McDowell (1-3), playing its second game of the year on its new artificial turf, had the only score of the opening quarter – a 50-yard run by Cedric Biddle – for an early 6-0 lead.

A 27-yard TD run by Ben Robinson with about three minutes left in the first half put Mitchell County up 14-6.

Mitchell County led 14-13 at the half and extended the lead to 21-13 when Pitman scored on a 30-yard run with about nine minutes left in the third quarter. He added a 5-yard scoring run to push the lead to 28-13.

After the Titans closed within 28-19 with a rushing TD, Pitman broke a run for 70 yards and a TD that left Mitchell County out front 35-19. That came with about 10 minutes to play and Robinson had a TD reception and Landon Miller ran for a TD to close the scoring for Mitchell County.

McDowell heads into its bye week and will have two weeks to prepare for its return to the Northwestern 3A-4A on Sept. 22 with a home game against Hickory.
