LINCOLNTON – Lincolnton High rode a 200-yard rushing night and four touchdowns by Tyshawn Harris to its first football win of the season on Friday night.

Harris sparked a 51-12 romp past visiting East Gaston as the Wolves (1-2) picked up their 26th win in 33 games since Ledford Gibson became head coach in the 2015 season.

The Wolves had struggled offensively in their first two games – falling 40-7 at Stuart Cramer and 59-6 at home – and then had a game at North Gaston last week postponed by rain.

“We needed a boost of confidence, and we got it,” Gibson told The Lincolnton Times News in a postgame interview. “Now maybe we can get these kids to play the way they are capable of playing.”

Harris had 185 of his 208 yards (on 15 carries) in the opening half, The Times News reported.

“We’ve known what Tyshawn could do,” Gibson said. “And that’s what I’ve expected from him.  He seemed like he saw the field a lot better tonight.”

Lincolnton ran for 355 yards and got two rushing TDs by Zach Lucas while quarterback Terrell McClain complete six passes, including a 67-yard TD to Tyreke Hollis.

East Gaston gained 153 yards and Lincolnton intercepted five passes.

Lincolnton shifted the game against North Gaston, on the road, to Thursday night. The Wolves then open South Fork 2A play on Sept. 22 with a road game at Newton-Conover.
