LINCOLNTON – If the rest of his tenure is anything like opening night, North Lincoln High head football coach Steven Pack is going to have a lot of fun.

NORTH LINCOLN 47
CAROLINA WILDCATS 6

With Pack debuting as their head coach, the Knights hammered the Carolina Wildcats 47-6 on Friday night and scored 40 of those points in the opening quarter at North Lincoln.

In one stretch of seven minutes, North Lincoln had three rushing touchdowns, two long pass plays for scores, a defensive TD and a field goal, The Lincoln Times News reported.

The game was played with a running clock – by rule in the North Carolina High School Athletic Association (NCHSAA) – after the Knights had gained a 42-point lead.

North Lincoln forced turnovers in the Wildcats’ territory on Carolina’s first three possessions.

Carolina is 0-2 after falling to Thomas Jefferson Classical Academy last week to open the season.

“We’re pretty good on offense and I think we have a good chance to be good on defense,” Pack told The Times News. “I don’t know how good we can be, but as hard as we have worked and with the athletes we have, we can be better than some people give us credit for.”

Pack is in his first year with the Knights after serving as defensive coordinator last season at Burns. He’s also been on coaching staffs at Fred T. Foard and Newton-Conover during his career.

North Lincoln plays at home again on Friday, facing Fred T. Foard at 7:30 p.m.

The Knights, after playing Sept. 8 at Alexander Central and the following Friday at Bessemer City, start South Fork 2A play on Sept. 22 by going to West Lincoln.
