NEWTON – St. Stephens High senior running back Xavian King — who ran for a career-high 319 yards on 26 carries and scored three touchdowns last Friday night in a win at McDowell — is the Oldies 101.3 FM WNNC Coca-Cola Golden Helmet Award winner for the seventh week of the football season.

The Indians, making their first trip to Marion, won 40-36 to improve to 2-4 overall and 1-1 in the Northwestern 3A-4A.

King is the third running back to win the Golden Helmet award this season.

A week ago, the winner for Week 6 was Bandys running back Ethan Howard, who led a 37-28 victory over Maiden in the South Fork 2A with 25 rushes for 227 yards and three TDs. He also blocked a punt that led to another score by Bandys.
