Greyhounds’ head coach collects 100th win in 14th year at the helm

HICKORY – Caylon Imes ran for three touchdowns on Monday night, sparking a Statesville High 40-12 victory over Hickory that gave head coach Randall Gusler his 100th career win with the Greyhounds.

Imes ran 10 yards for a TD in the second quarter, helping Statesville lead 14-6 at the half, and added scoring runs of 1 and 10 yards in the third quarter.

The Greyhounds (1-0) scored 26 points in the third quarter at Barger Stadium en route to beating Hickory (0-1) for the seventh straight time and for the 11th time in 12 meetings.

The game was originally schedule for Friday night but rained out.

Statesville opened the season against the Red Tornadoes for the 15th straight year in a series that began in 1924.

Gusler came to Statesville as head coach in 2006.

Hickory, starting its third season under head coach Russell Stone, next plays Hibriten in an endowment game on Friday at 7:30 p.m. at Hickory.

Statesville will meet Lake Norman on the road on Friday night at 7:30 p.m.
