Notes: Met for 77th time since playing first game in 1923 … Hickory leads series 48-27-2… Red Tornadoes snap Red Devils’ three-game win streak in series games played at Barger Stadium… Newton-Conover had won nine of the previous 12 overall and 11 of 15 … HHS has now played seven games on its new turf field at Barger… The teams had not played since 2019… HHS head coach Joe Glass picked up career win No. 62 in his 120th game and HHS is 9-6 since he took over the program… Newton-Conover fell to 1-2, Hickory improved to 2-1… Both schools are idle next Friday with Hickory then opening Western Foothills 3A play on Sept. 16 at East Lincoln and the Red Devils playing their first Catawba Valley 2A Athletic game of the season on the same night against West Caldwell in Newton… Stober has nine touchdown passes in last two games (five the previous Friday against South Caldwell).
