Hibriten High announced Monday it will need its junior varsity players on the varsity roster so the Panthers are cancelling their final two JV games.

Hibriten’s JVs are 1-6 overall and 0-2 in the Northwestern 3A-4A. The Panthers’ victory was 27-0 at South Caldwell on Sept. 16 in a designated non-conference game.

The move by Hibriten leaves Alexander Central without a Thursday game (as of Monday) and the Panthers won’t play their league game at home against South Caldwell on Oct. 28.

Maiden has new opponent on Thursday

Maiden said late Monday it will play Mountain Island Charter at Maiden on Thursday at 6 p.m. in a junior varsity game.

The Blue Devils were scheduled to play a home conference game against Lincolnton, but the Wolves have had to move some JV players to the varsity and aren’t expected to finish their Catawba Valley 2A Athletic schedule.

Lincolnton’s final JV game was scheduled Oct. 28 at home against West Lincoln.
