South Caldwell High announced Tuesday morning it has an open date on Friday in varsity football after Freedom informed it the football program there is under quarantine.

The Spartans (1-1, 1-0 Northwestern 3A-4A) were scheduled to play the Patriots (2-1, 2-1) in Morganton on Friday night. The junior varsity game in Hudson scheduled on Thursday also won’t be played.

South Caldwell hopes to find a varsity opponent for Friday but had not by early Tuesday.

Last Friday’s Hibriten at Fred T. Foard varsity game was not played due to Foard being under quarantine. The game is cancelled.

The South Fork 2A has played all of its scheduled games to date but has a school (Lake Norman Charter) that opted to field only a junior varsity team this season.

Hickory game now Saturday

Hickory’s non-conference varsity game against Forestview has been moved from Friday night to Saturday at 2 p.m. at Cramer High.

There are limited tickets on sale at Hickory from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Friday afternoon.

Tickets are $10 and only pre-sold tickets will be accepted as the stadium gate.

Junior varsity football changes

The Maiden at North Lincoln junior varsity football game on Thursday in the South Fork 2A has been moved to Wednesday at 6 p.m.

Bandys’ JV game at East Lincoln, also in the South Fork 2A, has been cancelled after East Lincoln notified Bandys it is under quarantine (the varsity game Friday at Bandys will be played).

In the Northwestern Foothills 2A, the Bunker Hill at East Burke junior varsity game scheduled for Thursday will now be played Wednesday at 6 p.m. in Icard.

Editor’s note: An earlier version of this story incorrectly said a varsity game between McDowell and Hickory was not played due to COVID-19. The game was postponed by a day and played on a Saturday with McDowell winning 21-7. HobbsDailyReport.com had made the correction and regrets the original error.
