HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL: Former Patton head coach to lead Mount Airy

MOUNT AIRY – A former high school football head coach at Patton and South Iredell is the new head coach at Mount Airy.

Jasson (J.K.) Adkins — most recently head coach at East Wilkes for five seasons – is replacing Kelly Holder, who resigned, as the boss of the Granite Bears, The Mount Airy News reported on Friday morning.

Adkins was the first head football coach at Patton in Burke County when it opened when the county went from having two high schools, East Burke and Freedom, to four when Patton and Draughn opened.

At Patton, the Panthers fielded a junior varsity team in 2007 under Adkins, and he was head coach of varsity teams that went 3-8 in 2008 and 4-7 in 2009.

He was head coach at South Iredell in 2005 (5-7) and 2006 (8-6), and his coaching experience includes stints of staffs at Watauga and Mooresville. He is an Appalachian State graduate.
