NEWTON – The high school football games scheduled this week between Hibriten and Fred T. Foard won’t be played.

In an e-mail on Monday, Foard athletic director Samy Shreitah said the Tigers’ junior varsity game on Thursday in Lenoir and their varsity game on Friday at Foard are off.

He said the Tigers have some position group players on their teams under quarantine by state regulations.

Shreitah expects Foard back on the field next week for games against West Caldwell.

On Tuesday, he said with a seven-game schedule in seven weeks set by the North Carolina High School Athletic Association (NCHSAA), Foard and Hibriten will not be able to makeup the missed games.

Hibriten has picked up a varsity non-conference game on Friday at 7 p.m. against North Rowan in Spencer but the Cavs don’t field a JV team.

Foard’s junior varsity is 0-1 and Hibriten’s is 2-0 with three league teams – Draughn, Patton and West Iredell – not fielding JV teams.

Hibriten’s current JV schedule shows its next game to be March 25 at home against East Burke.

Foard’s varsity is 1-1 and its next game, against West Caldwell, is scheduled March 19 at home.

Hibriten’s varsity is 2-0, outscoring opponents 112-19, and is scheduled to play its next conference game at home on March 19 against Draughn.
