PILOT MOUNTAIN — East Surry High honored its head football coach — former Bandys athlete, assistant coach and head coach Trent Lowman — after he was named the state’s football coach of the year.

Lowman, playing for his dad (Randy), was a star quarterback at Bandys.

After a tenure as an assistant coach at Lenoir-Rhyne University, he joined the football coaching staff at his alma mater and became the Trojans’ head coach after his dad retired after the 2012 season.

Trent Lowman spent five seasons leading Bandys, guiding three of those teams to the state playoffs.

Lowman has a career coaching record of 62-42 as East Surry heads into a game on Friday at South Stokes. His teams at Bandys went 23-36 and his teams at East Surry are 39-6.

The story below, from the Mount Airy News, is about East Surry recognizing Lowman for a number of state and national awards.
