HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL: Byus not retiring, will coach this season in West Virginia

PARKERSBURG, W. Va. – Former East Lincoln High head football coach Mike Byus’ coaching career isn’t over.

He’s returning to his native West Virginia to become head football coach at Parkersburg High, it was announced Wednesday in Parkersburg. His appointment is pending approval on June 13 by the local board of education.

On Feb. 17, Byus announced he would not coach East Lincoln next season. He spent 12 seasons with the Mustangs and captured two state titles and posted eight 10-win seasons.

East Lincoln went 11-3 last season and reached the third round of the state playoffs.

The Mustangs were 133-37 in a dozen season with Byus as head coach. His unofficial career coaching record, which includes stints as head coach at Raleigh Athens Drive and Robbinsville, is 210-97.

Parkerburg’s Big Red has back-to-back 4-6 records.
