LEGION BASEBALL: Maiden gets 17 hits, nips Kings Mountain on the road

KINGS MOUNTAIN – Maiden Post 240 won a baseball slugfest on Wednesday night in a 32-hit American Legion game, edging Kings Mountain 10-9 on the road.

Maiden (3-0) had 17 hits and Kings Mountain had 15.

Grayeson Brown went 3-for-5 and Taylor Tibbs added three hits and two RBIs for Post 240, which had a five-run fourth inning to go up 8-5. Ty Williams added two hits and drove in two runs and Josh Frye did the same for Post 240.

Kings Mountain scored two runs in the seventh inning to grab a 9-8 lead before Maiden scored twice in the eighth inning to regain the lead at 10-9.

Daniel Kahill was the winning pitcher in relief for Post 240, going two innings. He gave up five hits, one run (earned) with one walk and four strikeouts.

Cy Spencer threw on inning, giving up one hit, walking one and striking out one, to earn a save for Post 240.

Maiden has four games this weekend, starting with a home game (7 p.m. at Maiden High) against Union County on Friday. Post 240 plays at the Gaston Braves on Saturday at 7 p.m., then meets Henderson County on the road on Sunday at 1 p.m. for a doubleheader.

Maiden has made a change in its scheduled game at home against Kings Mountain, moving it from June 30 to June 29.
