KERNERSVILLE – North Lincoln High swept state 2A championships in cross country on Friday, led by Angie Allen capturing the girls’ individual title.

The Knights boys had 40 points and the Knights girls finished with 42. The boys edged Winston-Salem Atkins (79) and the girls were in front of South Fork 2A foe Lake Norman Charter (62).

The meets were at Ivey Redmon Park in Kernersville.

Allen closed in 18 minutes, 5.50 seconds to repeat as the state 2A champion with Katherine Hopkins of Lincolnton taking second (19:23.93).

North Lincoln had Lori Glavan (19:53.22) in seventh, three others runners in the top 18 and six runners in the top 22.

The Knights girls have won five straight regional titles and finish in the top three at the state championships for a fifth consecutive year.

Fred T. Foard’s Katrina Coulter placed 10th in 20:02.85.

In the boys’ meet, Walter Sellers of Atkins won in 15:40.85, ahead of North Lincoln teammates Miles Phillips (15:51.39) and Jacob Scott (15:54.64).

Also in the top 10 for the Knights: Stephen Fernetti (seventh, 16:24.83) and Jared Campbell (eighth, 16:29.71).

North Lincoln’s streak of consecutive state titles is now four, starting this run in 2017, and the Knights also won state titles in 2011 and 2012.

Jerry Castro is head coach of both North Lincoln teams.

Chapel Hill boys, Cuthbertson girls win 3A titles

On Saturday, the Chapel Hill boys and Cuthbertson girls won state 3A titles at Redmon Park.

Chapel Hill had 35 points, finishing ahead of the Weddington boys.

Cuthbertson had 31 points, also in front of the Weddington girls.

The boys’ winner was Ryan Montondo of Burlington Williams in 15:44.93.

Watauga’s Rien Freeman had the top finish among local conference runners (23rd, 16:44.17).

Cuthbertson’s girls got a 1-2 finish, with Madeline Hill (18:11.91) winning and Alyssa Presano in second (18:16.96).

Watauga’s Sidna Miller had the best finish among runners for area leagues, 17th in 19:30.15.
