WEST JEFFERSON — Former Watauga High boys’ basketball head coach Marc Payne, a fixture in prep basketball for more than four decades in the Greater Hickory area, is retiring effective March 1.
He is now athletic director at Ashe County, where he also coached boys’ basketball during his career there. He began his career in 1974, coaching at Beaver Creek.
