CHAPEL HILL – The release of the state high school basketball playoff brackets will be delayed a day – until Sunday – after a vote by the North Carolina High School Athletic Association (NCHSAA) board of directors.
In a special meeting of the board of directors on Wednesday, it was decided to delay the basketball brackets because of anticipated inclement weather on Thursday across the state.
In a press release, NCHSAA officials said teams can now use Saturday to play games. A third game of this week is allowed without the normally required NCHSAA approval.
Brackets are expected out in the early afternoon on Sunday.
There is a season limitation of 14 games but a 15th game is allowed if tiebreaking games for first place are needed.
The deadline for conferences to provide bracketing information to the NCHSAA is now 11:59 p.m. on Saturday, a day later than originally set.
The playoffs begin on Tuesday.
