The anticipation of inclement weather on Tuesday and Wednesday in Boone and Morganton has moved four opening-round games in the Northwestern 3A-4A basketball tournament up by one day.
Conference officials announced Sunday the No. 5 South Caldwell (8-15) at No. 4 Watauga (15-8) girls’ game is now scheduled for Monday at 6 p.m.
Following that game No. 5 St. Stephens (9-14) will battle No. 4 Watauga (12-11) in a first-round boys’ game.
Freedom athletic officials announced Monday morning the Patriots’ games — No. 8 Alexander Central (2-22) against No. 1 Freedom (23-1) in girls and No. 8 South Caldwell (1-22) against No. 1 Freedom (23-1) in boys — are also moving to Monday night.
The winners on Monday advance to semifinals on Thursday at Hickory, and the championship games are on Friday at Craft Gym.
