NEWTON – Fred T. Foard High will be the top seed for the Catawba Valley Easter Classic baseball tournament at the Legion Fairgrounds.
The three-day tournament begins on Monday with four games and continues through a championship game at 6:30 p.m. next Wednesday at Henkel-Alley Field.
The Tigers will face eighth-seeded Newton-Conover on Monday at 4 p.m., after two other first-round games get the tournament under way.
The first game on Monday is at 11 a.m. and pits No. 7 St. Stephens against No. 2 West Lincoln, with No. 6 Hickory facing No. 3 Hibriten at 1:30 p.m.
After Foard faces Newton-Conover, the final game of the opening day (6:30 p.m.) is No. 5 Bunker Hill against No. 4 Alexander Central.
It’s a 10-game tournament with four games on Tuesday – two in the loser’s bracket and a set of semifinals – and the third place game is next Wednesday at 4 p.m., followed by the title game at 6:30 p.m.
