LINCOLNTON – In a baseball season fast becoming about winning consistently, Bandys High won again Thursday night – beating Lincolnton 7-2 on the road in a key South Fork 2A game – to move into a share of first place in the conference.
The Trojans (6-0, 3-0) share first place with North Lincoln (4-1, 3-0) heading into another challenge on Friday night in a league game at 7 p.m. at East Lincoln (0-5, 0-3).
Bandys — which had last started a season 5-0 in 2007 — will attempt to snap a 12-game losing streak in its series with East Lincoln, and the Mustangs have won 19 of their last 20 against the Trojans.
On Thursday night, senior Andrew Patrick led the victory by pitching six innings with 10 strikeouts and also adding two hits for Bandys, which had eight.
A third-inning, three-run home run by Elijah Carr put the Trojans up 4-0. T.J. Rasar also had two doubles and drove in a run for Bandys.
Patrick gave up six hits and two runs (one earned) with reliever Alex Borst coming in with two outs and runners on first and second in the seventh inning. Borst threw two pitches, getting a 1-3 put out to end the game.
Lincolnton (4-1, 2-1) fell into a three-way tied for third place, with Lake Norman Charter and West Lincoln.
The Wolves’ six hits were one each by Lane Hoover, Robbie Cowie, Karson Williams, Mack Bowden, Caleb Martin and E.J. Manjarres.
Bandys left only two runners on base as it improved to 3-0 on the road this season.
The Trojans have outscored their six opponents 39-10, averaging 6 ½ runs per game. They were 0-6 at this point last season and outscored 50-25.
Bandys has two conference games next week, at home Tuesday against West Lincoln and next Friday at Lake Norman Charter.
North Lincoln visits Bandys on March 27.
East Lincoln is at Maiden on Tuesday and at home next Friday against West Lincoln.
