ALL-STATE BASEBALL: Trio of area players — 2 from Lincoln County — selected by N.C. Baseball Coaches Association

A trio of players from the Greater Hickory area conferences – two from Lincoln County – have been named all-state by the North Carolina Baseball Coaches Association (NCBCA).

The 2A team includes freshman Garrett Michael of East Lincoln and junior Chris Moxley of West Lincoln, while the 3A team includes Alexander Central senior Byron Younts.

Michael hit .467 for East Lincoln this season with 17 doubles, two home runs and 19 RBIs.

Moxley hit .370 for West Lincoln, which played eventual state 2A champion North Lincoln for the West 2A championship. He had four doubles, two triples, two home runs and drove in 16 runs plus a 4-0 record pitching with an ERA of 1.65.

Younts hit .369 for Alexander Central with seven doubles, two home runs and 22 RBIs.

The state players of the year selected by the NCBCA are Drew Fletcher of Falls Lake Academy in 1A, Hunter Hall of Washington in 2A, Cam Jackson of Greenville Conley in 3A and Landon Ginn of Corinth Holders in 4A.
