HICKORY – Hickory High girls’ varsity basketball head coach Barbara Helms is closing in on 450 career victories.

Helms — in her 17th season at HHS — has 446 career wins – 408 of them with the Red Tornadoes – heading into Friday night’s home game against South Caldwell (approximate tip-off at 6:30 p.m.).

Her other wins came during three seasons as head coach at East Burke, where those teams went 38-37 from 1996-97 through 1998-99.

Helms’ record at HHS is 408-69, and her overall record is 446-106, based on research by HobbsDailyReport.com of all 552 of her games as a varsity head coach.
