MINOR LEAGUES: Deal pitches an inning in Braves’ blowout loss

DEAL

Hayden Deal was the second of six pitchers used Sunday by the Mississippi Braves, who suffered a 15-1 loss at Montgomery (Ala.).

Deal pitched one inning (the fourth), throwing eight strikes among his 16 pitches and facing four batters before a crowd of 2,302.

He did not allow a run or hit, walked one and struck out two. Deal is 2-2  this season with an ERA of 3.78 and 43 strikeouts in 47 2/3 innings.

A hard-throwing left-hander who starred at Bandys High and Presbyterian, Deal has appeared in 110 pro games with a 22-17 record, 3.21 ERA and 323 strikeouts in 364 2/3 innings.

The Braves (44-46) are off on Monday before starting a six-game series at Pensacola (Fla.) on Tuesday night.
