DEAL
Former Bandys High star Hayden Deal has reached 125 appearances as a pro player and reached that in style with his second hold of the season.
As the second pitcher on Saturday for the Mississippi Braves, he went one inning in a 7-6 victory at Biloxi, Miss.
He allowed one hit and walked two, throwing nine strikes on 20 pitches against five batters.
The game had a rain delay of a minute shy of two hours and 3,566 attended the Double A battle.
Deal, a left-hander, is 1-0 with a 1.80 ERA this season, appearing in seven games with 11 strikeouts in 10 innings pitched.
The Braves are in a series at Pensacola, Fla., and Deal did not pitch on Tuesday night. The series continues through Sunday.
After 125 pro games, Deal is 24-17 with an ERA of 3.24 with 344 strikeouts in 386 innings pitched.
He has been primarily a reliever for the Braves but has made 48 career starts and gained five saves.
He was signed as a free agent after a tryout at Bandys after his college career at Presbyterian (S.C.) ended), and is in his sixth season of actual minor league pitching (missed 2020 when COVID wiped out the minor league year).
Last season, he went 3-2 for Mississippi with an ERA of 4.12, pitching 59 innings with 26 walks and 53 strikeouts. He had two saves.
