Hayden Deal has a solid start as he chased his 20th pro baseball win on Saturday before ending up without a decision.
Deal pitched four innings, allowing three hits and one run (earned) as Mississippi won 8-1 at Pensacola (Fla.).
He threw strikes on 41 of his 61 pitches and had a wild pitch, one walk and three strikeouts.
Deal is 2-2 with an ERA of 3.82 this season after 15 starts in Double-A. He’s thrown 73 innings and struck out 61.
A left-handed star at Bandys High who pitched in college at Presbyterian, Deal is 19-15 as a pro with 269 strikeouts in 301 2/3 innings.
Mississippi is 44-34 and leading the Double-A South’s South Division by one game over Montgomery (Ala.).
The Braves are off Monday and start a six-game road series against Birmingham (Ala.) on Tuesday night.
Deal’s 16th start of the season should come at Birmingham.
