DEAL

BILOXI, Ms. — Hayden Deal made his third start of the season — and first in nearly two months — on Sunday for the Mississippi Braves.

Deal, a left-hander from Bandys High who has worked primarily as a reliever this season, started in a Double A game at Biolox (Miss.), and the Braves eventually fell 5-4.

Deal went  1 1/3 innings, giving up three hits, three ruins (all earned), walking two and striking out one. He faced nine batters, throwing strikes on 28 of his 45 pitches.

He had not started for the Braves since July 13 against Rocket City.

Deal is 3-2 this season with an ERA of 4.42 in 29 games (26 in relief). He has 48 strikeouts in 55 innings.

It was the 116th pro appearance for the lanky left-hander who pitched in college at Presbyterian (S.C.). He is 23-17 with an ERA of 3.31 with 329 strikeouts in 372 innings.

The Braves are 30-31 in the second half of the Southern League South Division race, eight games back of Montgomery (Ala.).

Mississippi closes the season with games against Montgomery on Tuesday through Sunday at Mississipi.

The Braves are 59-71 overall and will finish last in the overall division standings.
