PEARL, Mississippi — Former Bandys High lefty Hayden Deal pitched five innings and took a loss on Wednesday night in his Double-A debt for the Mississippi Braves.
Deal, who pitched in college at Presbyterian, S.C., gave up two runs (one earned) as the Braves fell 2-1 to visiting Pensacola (Fla.) in a Double-A South game.
He walked one and struck out two, throwing strikes on 46 of his 64 pitches and facing 21 batters in 68-degree weather before 2,307 fans.
The series to continues with a doubleheader on Thursday, the regularly scheduled game plus a game to makeup Tuesday night’s rainout when Deal was to have started.
When Deal pitches again will depend on if the Braves use a five- or six-man rotation.
