Hayden Deal went five innings on Wednesday night for the Mississippi Braves in a Double-A game that was suspended by rain in the bottom of the fifth inning and tied at 3-all.

The game will resume Thursday — Pensacola (Fla.) at the Braves — and then the teams will play a regularly scheduled game.

Both teams are 33-22, sharing the lead in the Double-A South’s South Division.

Deal, a former prep star at Bandys High, gave up seven hits on Wednesday night. He was touched for three runs, all earned, and he walked three and struck out two.

He was making his 11th start of the season and entered the game with a 1-2 record with an ERA of 3.83.

Deal was signed as a free agent by the Atlanta Braves after a tryout at the Bandys stadium. A Braves scout offered Deal a contract before Deal left Bandys that day.

When Deal will make his 12th start of the season will depend on the number of starters the Braves decide to use in their rotation.
