Hayden Deal and the Mississippi Braves are sidelined by COVID-19 and not scheduled to play again before Tuesday at Biloxi (Miss.).
The Braves have played one game scheduled in a home series, losing 1-0 to Pensacola (Fla.) on Tuesday.
The team website says the club is following major league instructions and rules as it continues to conduct COVID tests within in the organization.
Deal — a former high school star at Bandys and college star at Presbyterian — has been primarily a starter for Mississippi. He made three relief appearances before returning to the starting rotation in his last outing last Friday.
He worked two-thirds of an inning of a road game against Montgomery (Ala.)., throwing strikes on 10 of his 14 pitches, facing three batters, and giving up one hit and striking out two.
Deal is 3-2 with an ERA of 3.90 and now has 67 strikeouts in 80 2/3 innings this season, and he has 275 strikeouts as a pro in 309 1/3 innings.
Mississippi is 58-39 and leads the Double-A South’s South Division over Montgomery by six games.
