GREENSBORO – Two area girls’ basketball stars and another from an area conference are prepping to play in the annual East-West All-Star game on Monday night.

Abby Cook, a forward from Alexander Central, and Ariyana Williams, a guard from Freedom, were selected on a 10-player roster by West coaches Kim Furlough (Northern Guilford) and assistant Brandon Holloway of Canton Pisgah.

Also picked was another star from the South Mountain Athletic 2A-3A, R-S Central forward-center Kyra Davis.

All East-West players were seniors in 2017.

The girls’ game is Monday night at 6:30 p.m. at the Greensboro Coliseum and is part of the North Carolina Coaches Association (NCCA) East-West Clinic Week.

Players reported to Greensboro on Saturday and were to practice twice on Saturday. The West has a morning and afternoon practice on Sunday at Northwest Guilford High.

Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for students with advance packages available in advance by calling the NCCA at (336) 379-9095.

ABBY COOK, ALEXANDER CENTRAL

Coached by Jacob Lail…as senior, named all-conference…averaged 15 points, 12 rebounds…as junior, named all-Conference, North Piedmont 3A-4A Player of the Year, District Player of the Year…averaged 17 points, 11 rebounds…as sophomore, averaged 11 points, 9 rebounds…career stats: 1,304 points, 1,022 rebounds – only player in school history to have more than 1,000 points and rebounds… signed an athletic grant-in-aid with Wingate, where she will major in nursing…plans to pursue a career as a labor and delivery nurse.

ARIYANA WILLIAMS, FREEDOM

Coached by Amber Reddick…as senior, named all-state by North Carolina Associated Press and by North Carolina Basketball Coaches Association (NCBCA), was district Player of the Year, Player of the Year in the Northwestern 3A-4A… All-tournament in league event and also in Freedom Christmas Invitational…averaged 21 points, five rebounds, three steals, 2.5 assists last season… as junior, averaged 16 points, four rebounds, 3.4 assists, was MVP of state 3A title game…signed with East Carolina.

KYRA DAVIS, R-S CENTRAL

Coached by Darius Fuller…as senior, named all-conference, all-district, All-Rutherford County (Player of Year), team MVP, team best rebounder, all-tournament at Freedom Christmas Invitational.. played in the Carolinas Classic All-Star game…senior averages of 21.4 points, 9.4 rebounds, 2.7 blocks… graduated from Rutherford Early College…signed to play at Campbell… will major in pre-med and pans to be a pediatrician.
